Hypnosis & NLP for Anxiety, Depression & Trauma: Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re considering working with me, you probably have questions. Here are the ones I hear most — answered straight.
“My journey with Dennis exceeded my expectations, with so many revelations and ‘aha’ moments paving my path forward. I struggle to find words other than ‘wow.’ Life is good!”

What is hypnosis, and is it safe?
Hypnosis isn’t stage tricks or mind control. It’s a natural, focused, deeply relaxed state — like getting lost in a good book — where your mind is more open to positive change. You stay aware and in control the whole time. It’s widely considered safe, and I’m a Board Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist trained directly under Dr. Richard Bandler, the co-creator of NLP.
Does hypnosis really work for anxiety and depression?
For a lot of people, yes. Anxiety and low mood run on subconscious patterns — the way your mind reacts before you can think it through. NLP and hypnosis work at that level, which is why change often happens faster than people expect. Learn more about hypnosis for anxiety and hypnosis for depression in West Chester.
“If you have any — and I mean any — anxiety, depression, or self-doubt, you need to speak with him. It will be the best investment for yourself!”
— Scott W., Google review
How is hypnosis different from talk therapy?
Talk therapy mostly works with your conscious thoughts, often over months or years. My approach works with the subconscious patterns underneath — using NLP and hypnosis — so we can move faster and focus on what’s actually driving the problem.
How many hypnosis sessions will I need?
Most approaches are open-ended. Mine isn’t. I use NLP and hypnosis in a structured 8-session process to help people work through anxiety, depression, and past trauma. You know the plan from day one — no endless, open-ended commitment.
“Working with Dennis took my self-worth from a five out of 10 to an eight out of 10 in just a matter of three weeks… I feel lighter and brighter.”
— Sean E., Google review
Do I have to relive my past trauma?
No. This isn’t about re-opening old wounds and sitting in the pain. The work focuses on changing how those experiences affect you now — so you can move forward without reliving every detail.
Will I lose control during hypnosis?
No. You stay fully aware and in control the entire time. You can hear everything, you can talk, and you can come out of it whenever you want. Hypnosis is focused attention — not unconsciousness.
What happens in a hypnosis session?
We talk, set a clear goal, and I guide you through NLP and hypnosis techniques tailored to what you want to change. It’s relaxed, collaborative, and structured around real progress — not open-ended venting.
“His personable approach made it easy to stay engaged… he created an environment that was both welcoming and focused.”
— Anna S., Google review
Is everything I share kept private?
Yes. What you share with me stays between us. Privacy and trust are the foundation of the work.
Do you work with teens and college students?
Yes — it’s one of the groups I work with most. Teens and young adults facing anxiety, pressure, and self-doubt often respond very well, especially when talk-based approaches haven’t clicked. For students dealing with focus and attention challenges, I also offer ADHD coaching.
“Dennis worked with my teenage daughter… his techniques and hypnosis helped her break her patterns and achieve a level of confidence that remains with her today. I’m a counselor myself… Dennis will deliver the results you’ve been seeking.”
— Monica R-G., Google review
Can we do sessions virtually?
Yes. I work with people in person in West Chester and virtually throughout Pennsylvania and beyond, so you can do the full process from wherever you are.
What does it cost, and do you take insurance?
This is a private, self-pay program — I don’t bill insurance, which keeps everything private and lets me tailor the process to you. I’ll walk you through the details on your first session.
My first session is free — what’s the catch?
No catch. The first session is complimentary so you can see how it feels, ask questions, and decide if it’s right for you — with zero pressure. Most people just want to know it’s a fit before they commit. That’s exactly what it’s for.
How do I get started?
Simple. Book your free first session and we’ll talk through what’s going on and map out your next steps.
